The Primordial Fire and the Seven Sons in Ancient Theology and ‘The Secret Doctrine’

Fire & Sun-Gods Explained

The Ancients of the East erected Highplaces, from the pyramids of Giza through Ramah, Philistine, Shiloh, Beth Shemesh, Moab, to Babylon, sacred to Baal, Adon, Iao, or El, the Sun (a High-God). What is the mystery of the “Sun-God” worshiped by those who held fire as sacred?

A most archaic and sacred reference to fire is owed to these ancient civilizations, from which their religious systems hid a common philosophy of spirit and dynamic power, built on the distinction between spirit and matter. The immortal light of fire, fashioned from the terrestrial-matter more life, all fructified by the one substance, generically termed the spiritus, or pneuma. It was from the “Crown” of heaven, that the planets and their spheres (planes) received their light and powers; and the Sun itself, from an unknown quantity, generally termed, “the Life.” This is the true Sun (metaphysically) in the Mysteries and is spoken of as triple, the formless, electric fire of all Life, beyond manifested Nature.

“THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF THE PRESENCE,” AND THE “SEVEN SONS” IN THE SECRET DOCTRINE

This astronomical religion of the Chaldeans (Assyrians), Syrians, Persians, Arabs, in the Mysteries of the Jews, Phoenicians, and Egyptians depicted tales of Seven-Rayed Gods, like Mithra-Bel, the Logos, that transferred its quality and power through the Seven Spheres, and the “seven classical (sacred) planets” that danced and circled around the King of heaven. The Logos is the manifested deity with every old nation and people. Its cause is concealed, hidden, and inscrutable, and speech (sound) is closely linked to the Logos, thus to human Thought and its activity.

The ancients all across pre-civilization believed in deities, whom first evolved from what is called the Primordial or Noumenal Fire. The records of the Hebrews contain this fire-worship.

“The Lord is a consuming Fire.” (Deuteronomy 4:24)

“The Lord shall be revealed with his mighty angels [asdt] in flaming fire.” (2 Thessal., 1:7, 8)

These asdt also known as Aions (Æons) were the first gods, called ‘the Ancients’ generally, and the Seven, the “Primordial Seven.” The flaming fire, from which they evolved is the Aether, the purely formless, and invisible primordial flame. All the gods descend from the Primordial Seven, but in The Secret Doctrine, it is stated, that from these Primordial Seven, are taught to descend a Second Seven, which is not singular, but a group of classes. Collectively, they are termed the Aions (a Gnostic term).

The origins of the Mysteries are ignorantly regarded as devilish (unholy) WISDOM, proceeding from “those evil Babylonians” and Moloch-sacrificers. These are in-fact religious systems shared by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, Indians, Parthians, Arabs, Medes, Gebers, Elamites, Galileans, and the world over. The fire-worship of antiquity remains passed into the Jewish offspring of the Mysteries in Christianity, and other doctrines, and refashioned. This so-called fire-worship became modified and articulated in accordance with the Jewish national-cultus.

The gods of SYRIA, of Moab in Jordan, of the Philistines, the numerous versions of VENUS(Astarte)-worship, the SEVEN AIONS and their “hosts” are in many other traditions, as in the Japanese mythology of Tenchikaibyaku (天地開闢), and concerning the Kamiyonanayo (神世七代, or the “Seven Generations of the Age of the Gods”). This myth has been perverted by some into an allegory of the sexual act, but the myth is built on the same fundamental philosophy.

In the Simonian Theosophy and Blavatsky’s writings, the “Primordials” are described as in-fact their Fathers (“minds”), the graduated emanations, descending lower and lower into matter, from the primordial “Fire” or svabhāva, the root-substance of all the innumerable hierarchies of beings. Broadly, in the Theogony of creative Gods, these first “Primordials” that descend from the eternal Fire are known as the Aions (Archangels) or Dhyani-Buddhas, the highest Intelligences on the scale of existence.

As to the Logos, the ancient civilizations spoke of it as the vitality from which the physical or visible sun draws its power in the manifested Solar System. Occult Philosophy explains the concept of the triple-god is a mystery-doctrine.

The true sun (centre or brain) of the cosmos, which all suns derive their power, is explained in Isis Unveiled:

“None of the ancients, the sun-worshipers included, regarded our visible sun otherwise than as an emblem of their metaphysical invisible central sun-god.”

It is this Sunthe allegorical Sun (Sol, Iao, Abraxas), the ancient religions of “fire-worship” truly refer to as the King, or “Father-Sun,” many-eyed and omniscient. In another place, H.P. Blavatsky explains this invisible Power, or invisible Sun can be equated to (1) the occult theory of an astronomical (celestial) body at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, that serves as the reservoir of all the energy in our system, attracting and emitting life; and (2) the Divine Self within human beings. The Central Sun is represented symbolically, as the point in the middle of the six-pointed-star, which radiates the seven principal Forces called “Rays.” The substance or energy from which they spring to sum it up again, is called: spirit, pneuma, the invisible electric Fire, divine MOTION, and divine BREATH.

“We call it the One manifested life – itself a reflection of the Absolute . . . . .” (The Secret Doctrine” Vol. 1, p. 290).

The visible Sun in our system is but its representative, and the equinoxes, solstices and phases in our system are seen as its symbols.

All the Central physical or objective Suns are in their substance the lowest state of the first Principle of the BREATH (ibid., 289).
