Open Letter: The Real Republican Mind, Upholder of Liberty and Virtue

Iris (detail) by John Atkinson Grimshaw (1886)

AREPUBLICAN-mind abhors the chains of slavery — mentally, spiritually and physically. The republican believes that “the health (or welfare) of the People should be the Supreme Law” (Salus populi suprema lex esto). The republican rejects anti-secularism, monarchy, theocracy, clericalism, oligarchy, despotism and authoritarianism. The republican comes from a heritage and legacy of revolution and radical political thought, and of radical bodily movement. It is a cause of liberation. The republican-minded must be strong upholders of Liberty and Virtue engaged in the study of power, its abuses and diplomacy. The republican learns to recognize, diagnose and ease the pathologies of politics, refusing by all means to contribute to corruption. The REPUBLICAN fights degeneration, corruption and superficiality in their religious attitudes and knowledge. The republican fights against the degeneration and superficiality of their political culture and political language. The REPUBLICAN is imbued with a god-ward inclination or aspiration towards knowledge, wisdom, illumination and the friendship of humanity. Living to embody REPUBLICAN principles, virtues and philosophy — you are called upon to become a torchbearer and protector of democracy and the people.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dominique Johnson is a writer and author of The American Minervan created years ago and changed from its first iteration as Circle of Asia (11 years ago), because of its initial Eurasian focus. The change indicated increasing concern for the future of their own home country. He has spent many years academically researching the deeper philosophical classical sources of Theosophy, Eclecticism and American Republicanism to push beyond current civilizational limitations. He has spent his life since a youth dedicated to understanding what he sees as the “inner meanings” and instruction in classical literature, martial philosophies, world mythology and folklore for understanding both the nature of life and dealing with the challenges of life.
