Jonathan Pageau (founder of The Symbolic World) is a French-Canadian icon carver who explores the symbolic patterns that underlie our experience of the world. We understand symbolism to express indirectly a reality that cannot be expressed directly. Jonathan Pageau is on a path to what he says is a reclamation of “the world of Beauty and Truth.” He has recently been given a new interview to explain the topic of “World War Consensus” which has become popularized again by American theologian R.R. Reno (editor of First Things). R.R. Reno warns that this effort is not an attempt at a revisionism to define Hitler as the good guy, which I will warn against as well. The dangers of the collapse of the “World War consensus” is the environment for Hitlerist and pro-Nazi propaganda to proliferate and indoctrinate people. However, this phase of collapse provides opportunity. There are idealogues that have already taken advantage, and this is mostly coming from “far-right” and authoritarian movements, while its adversaries are on the defense to save a dying political age or world, rather than create. Creation is the very reason for my work, rather than say, stale defenses of Liberalism. Jonathan Pageau’s talk relates to my articles Dance of the Parties in Warnings of Fascism in American Politics, Everyone now sees fascists and The Swastika and the Star of David: A Combined Theosophical Emblem.
“All worlds are based on a kind of sacred origin. Every world has a foundation and a foundation myth upon which it is based. That foundation myth casts light on the world, it structures the world, it gives you a frame. Tells you who the good guys are, it tells you who the bad guys are. Tells you what’s important. Frames space and stabilizes space for awhile. . .and our world is based on World War II. . .everybody kind of knows. . .our geopolitical world is based on World War II. The way that we understand ourselves is based on World War II. The hierarchy of values is based on World War II. World War II is a kind of foundation myth for our world today. Now, it played an important role in kind of holding us together. It had its heroes. It had its, you could say, its principalities, and it had its enemies, its devils. It held the world and created prosperity for a long time. It kind of stabilized things.”
